GRB Idler

During the telescope’s idle time, the 26m can be made available for rapid follow up of GRBs (Gamma Ray Bursts). There is a script on newsmerd (GRB_idler.sh) which carries this out by waiting for a GRB notice to be received via email. When one arrives, it send the telescope off to the GRB location & records data through the LBADR. Please start this script running whenever possible. It checks to make sure it will not interfere with any other operations being carried out at the time (bruce, survey_ng or fs schedule).

When it is run, it will go through a checklist to make sure the backend is correctly configured. The current configuration is:

  • Warm S-band receiver, direct, quad out
  • Agilent set to 7.75 GHz, 16 dBm
  • SML01 set to 878 MHz, 10 dBm
  • DAS profile PSR64_N.PRO & levels centred*
  • BG3 cable in
  • At least 250 GB of space on one of the Xraids - You will be prompted to select the drive when you start the script.
